What is VoIP?

VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) has been around for a while. It allows people to make phone calls using the same data lines as you use for the internet. Rather than using cellphone towers or traditional landline phones, individuals and companies can take advantage of the fiber optics and data transmission capabilities of the internet.

What are the advantages of VoIP?

VoIP has several advantages, particularly when used by call centers or companies that rely on phone calls and voice. One of the main advantages is that you or your company don’t need to rely on a single phone number for your operations. You can change phones numbers using VoIP services without relying on landlines or even someone’s personal cellphones. VoIP has other advantages, including:

Lower costs than a landline or buying more cellphones for staff.

Portability in that staffers can use apps on their phones to use cloud-based VoIP services.

Scalability to use as many numbers as you need for staffers at a company, whether you have 10 people or 10,000 who need phone numbers. It also allows you have voicemail capabilities.

Clearer voice quality compared to landlines and even cellphones.

Complete flexibility by using multiple lines, wireless connectivity, and multiple phone numbers for staff.

What cables do I need for VoIP?

Each station where you need VoIP, whether for a phone or computer, requires:

An Ethernet jack (RJ45)

CAT5, CAT5E, or CAT6 cabling

CAT6 cabling when you expect to use 100Mbps or greater.

The reason these machines need these types of cables is due to the amount of data carried over them because they also carry data and not just people’s voices.
